Dr Williams homepage General Medical Council - Media Release9 November 2007"GMC finding of Serious Professional Misconduct against Dr Alan Williams upheld in High Court" The GMC welcomes the decision by Mr Justice Davis in the appeal of Dr Alan Williams, the Home Office pathologist who conducted post mortem examinations for both Christopher and Harry Clark. Patients and the public have the right to expect proper standards in the practice of medicine. We are pleased that the finding of serious professional misconduct has been upheld, demonstrating the GMC’s commitment to ensuring patient safety and the public interest. Mr Justice Davis said; “In my judgement, this appeal fails on essentially every ground advanced. There was no procedural unfairness giving rise to injustice; nor were the findings and conclusion of the Panel wrong.” Mr Justice Davis also made it clear that the Panel was concerned with the doctors fitness to practise. It was not investigating the deaths of Christopher and Harry Clark. He said; “The Panel had expressly and rightly stated that its determination was not concerned with why or how Christopher and Harry Clark died (a matter on which views have differed and do differ). No more can this judgement be concerned with that.” From today Dr Alan Williams will not be able to not undertake any Home Office Pathology or Coroners cases for a period of three years. Dr Alan Williams may apply for an early review hearing.
