Tonight, with one of the most infamous murder cases in South Australia’s legal history. After his conviction in 1978, Edward Splatt was sentenced to a life behind bars, yet he was innocent. It took a media campaign and a costly Royal Commission to expose the flawed police and forensic investigation, but despite the first class work of his legal team and a pardon, Ted Splatt has never formally had his conviction quashed. In the 28 years since, there’s been no change to the way such cases are dealt with. And at 87 years old, for his innocence to be restored Ted still has to go to the Governor to beg for mercy. Graham Archer takes up the story.
