On 11 June 2008 ABC reported “Officers fought over loyalty to former cop”.

A Victorian Office of Police Integrity hearing was told police were involved in a fight, over loyalty to a former detective suspected of involvement in a double murder. The police corruption inquiry has heard several police officers fought at an AFL match in Melbourne last month, when doubt surfaced about the loyalty of some officers to their former colleague, Paul Dale. One of the officers received a cut to the head in the scuffle and was taken to hospital.

The hearing is trying to determine whether the loyalty of several serving officers to Mr. Dale, exceeded their obligations as Victorian police officers. Under questioning, Detective Sergeant Dennis Linehan admitted he had a mistrust of the Ethical Standards Division (ESD), because he had been under investigation. He described the ESD as toe cutters.

Earlier, Detective Sergeant Linehan was asked whether he sought information from other officers about Mr Dale's involvement in three matters.  Those matters include a drug break-in, missing information reports and the murders of Terrence and Christine Hodson at Kew East in 2004. Detective Sergeant Linehan has emphatically denied any improprieties.
