On 17 January 2008 ABC News reported “Premier hopeful of murder breakthrough”.

It said Police appeal for more public help in finding out who murdered Elisabeth Membrey. The Victorian Premier John Brumby is hopeful there will be a breakthrough soon into the murder of Melbourne woman Elisabeth Membrey. The 22-year-old was murdered in her Ringwood unit just over 13 years ago, but her body has never been found. Homicide Squad detectives are in Western Australia where they have interviewed a 41-year-old man. No charges have been laid.

Mr Brumby says a $1-million dollar reward for information is still on offer. "This has been an obviously heartbreaking case for the parents because there is still no body, there has been no burial," he said. So we all want to see justice achieved, so it is promising that there have been formal interviews by police and hopefully there will be a breakthrough."
