Networked Knowledge - Media Report
This version of the report has been prepared by: Dr Robert N Moles
DNA Homepage On 22 December 2007 ABC News reported “Welsh police suspend DNA testing technique”. It said that police in England and Wales have suspended the use of a controversial DNA technique, while a review is carried out of all current cases where it is being used. The technique was central to the failed case against Sean Hoey, who was cleared yesterday in Northern Ireland of the Omagh bombings. Low copy number testing lets scientists analyse tiny samples of DNA, sometimes a million times smaller than a grain of salt. The technique has been used in Australia and helped convict Bradley Murdoch of the 2001 murder of British backpacker Peter Falconio.
