On 12 September 2007 The West Australian / AAP reported “Cold case review leads to rape charge”.

It said that a Forrestfield man has been charged with raping a woman twice as her children slept nearby, following a cold case review by police. Last month, detectives from WA’s sex assault squad conducted a review into crimes committed against the same woman in March and April 2003. “During the early morning of March 9 and again on April 4, 2003, it is alleged that the male broke into the complainant’s home in Maddington while she was asleep with four young children,” Constable Matt Kukura said. “On both occasions he subjected her to a serious sexual assault.”

DNA analysis and the re-interviewing of witnesses allowed police to identify the offender, Constable Kukura said. Police have charged a 26-year-old man with two counts of aggravated burglary, four counts of sexual penetration without consent and deprivation of liberty. He was scheduled to appear in Perth Magistrates Court today.
